Books Of Channeled Material That I Own
Like many people my age, I first heard about channeling from that TV show with Shirley Maclaine, Out On A Limb. That show came out shortly before I joined the Army in 1988. While I was over in Germany during the first year of my military duty, I began my own search for answers about reality and all the big "whys" of life. I remembered this show and bought the book. In the section of the bookstore where I found copies of Out On A Limb there were all of these other New Age books that I'd never heard of. Curious, I looked these over and explored a great number of them. Some were about channeling, out of body experiences, near death experiences, dreams, aliens, psychics, etc. This is how I learned about channeling and discovered the Seth Books.
Books By Seth / Jane Roberts
Seth is a channeled author who spoke through Jane Roberts while her husband, Robert Butts, took dictation. Jane first started channeling Seth in 1963 and continued to do so up until her death in 1984. The depth to which the "Unknown Reality" is described in the Seth Books is truly amazing. I haven't found another series of books that covers all of the topics as Seth does in such detail, including probable realities, reincarnation, dreams, pre-history, and many other fascinating subjects. Seth can be a hard read and I find that Abraham might be a better starting point for people new to the subject of channeling. The books that Seth dictated through Jane Roberts include:
- The Seth Material
- Seth Speaks
- The Nature Of Personal Reality
- The "Unknown" Reality Volume One
- The "Unknown" Reality Volume Two
- The Nature Of The Psyche
- The Individual And The Nature Of Mass Events
- Dreams, "Evolution," and Value Fulfillment
- The Magical Approach
- The Way Toward Health
Jane and Robert lived in Elmira, New York, and I do believe that Robert Butts is still alive (living in Oregon, I think). Jane Roberts did write some of her own books, including a fictional trilogy of Oversoul Seven, some non-fiction studies in psychology, poetry, and other channeled material. I haven't read her work outside of the Seth Books yet, but perhaps in time.
Books By Abraham-Hicks
I had never heard of Abraham until 2005 (oddly enough from a woman I was trying to hook up with through an online dating service, lol). Prior to this, my only experience with channeled authors was the Seth Books and some Edgar Cayce. I never bothered to read or learn about all the others, but Abraham-Hicks sounded interesting. I was very glad that I looked into Abraham, since the message mirrored that of Seth / Jane Roberts and many of the New Thought authors that I like. Abraham is an entity that is composed of over a hundred different personalities and is channeled by Esther Hicks, who lives in Texas with her husband, Jerry. The major works from Abraham-Hicks include:
- A New Beginning I
- A New Beginning II
- Ask And It Is Given
- The Amazing Power Of Deliberate Intent
With Abraham-Hicks, there is but one focus and one main topic: that all people create their own experience through the universal Law Of Attraction. Abraham's books don't delve into a great variety of subjects like Seth's do, though they do discuss how the Law of Attraction manifests in various areas of personal experience. Abraham seems to want to stay on message and keep finding new ways to convey that message until it is clear. Abraham-Hicks is a good author to start reading about the Law of Attraction, as the writing is kept simple, focused, and easy to understand.
I am well aware of the skepticism surrounding channeling, and I approach any new channeled author I come across with caution. Having read the entire works of Seth and Abraham many times, I am quite convinced of their validity. I can't speak with any certainty about other channeled authors, such as Ramtha or Lazaris. If time ever permits, I might explore their books, but for now I restrict my reading of channeled material to the writings of Seth and Abraham.
