Samples Of Favorite Songs
There are many songs from bands where I only like the single they put out and don't care for the rest of the CD at all. In some cases, I just buy the individual songs that a band releases until I like enough of their singles to start buying their CDs. I'm putting up short samples of my favorite songs that I'm currently checking out. These are excerpts around one minute long each (kinda like Amazon gives ya). Feel free to check out 'em out.
Audioslave
Never got into Audioslave's full CD releases, but I had to buy this one song. It has very interesting lyrics with a very unique guitar solo.
Cure, The
When I bought some single from The Cure a long time ago, this track was the B-Side. I liked this song better than I liked the single, whatever it was. I still enjoy listening to this haunting little melody.
Hoobastank
I don't know much about this band other than this one song. Loved it from the first time I heard it, and I still perk up everytime it plays. It's a very good song due mostly to the awesome vocals their lead singer provides.
Joy Division
I used to own Joy Division's other releases, Unknown Pleasures and Closer, on tape, not CD. Overall, the music on them is just too dreary to make them worth buying on CD, but I did feel like hanging on to this one track off Closer since it still holds fond memories. Be careful listening to it; its depressing.
Lasgo
If you really like listening to electronic dance beats, you simply must go to Belgium. Lasgo is a Belgian band (like Ian Van Dahl) that I like enough to buy each of their CDs. However, there are certain remixes on their CD-Singles which I also just had to buy. My favorite is an eight-minute techno number, Surrender, by Peter Luts. Here's a taste:
Mnemic
This is an interesting metal band from Denmark. Dan and I went and saw them in Fort Worth this past October. I had never heard of them, but they are one of Dan's favorite groups. Below are samples from two of Mnemic's songs that I really like, but I'm not completely sure if I like their whole CDs yet; still checking them out. I absolutely love these two songs, though, and I play them all the time while working out.
Paul Oakenfold
This pair of techno-dance tunes from musician / producer Paul Oakenfold are interesting little works of art. One is from his 2002 release, Bunkha; the other is from the 2001 soundtrack to the movie, Swordfish.
When I find songs I like, I usually go grab them from Napster (www.napster.com) for $.99 per track. Of course, I do check out each song before I'm sure I want to buy it, and I use LimeWire (www.limewire.org) for that purpose. Also, I use GoldWave (www.goldwave.com) to create the one minute long MP3 samples found on my site.
